Information about ShipCom's Smart Network Platform (SNP)

SNP Technical Description

The switching hardware of the SNP is a customized Eagle Telephonics non-blocking Digital Switching Central Office (DSCO).  This converts analog signals from a port to digital base band which are then processed and routed to any other port or combination of ports.

The DSCO consists of a frame (the cabinet), power supplies, processor boards and various circuit cards that provide different types of inputs and outputs.  For example:

  •  E&M cards contain circuitry for eight 4-wire duplex circuits (8 ports).  The E&M card is used for controlling most radio system types.

  • 32 port 2-wire circuit cards provide the signaling required for standard telephone instruments such as touch-tone dial telephones.

  • T-1 (24 channels) and E-1 (30 channels) cards provide data connectivity to high volume circuits.

A server connected to the switch supports multiple operator consoles, keeping track of all the connections inside the switch and providing this information to the operator consoles. Operators can command SNP to connect, disconnect or conference parties and lines in any combination..

VOIP software provides audio to user Consoles via the Internet, Intranet, LAN or WAN when a hard wire connection is not available.  This feature makes it possible to remotely control all switching functions.  An authorized user with User Console software installed on a standard Laptop computer or at a ROCC can perform all the functions of an operator-dispatcher through an Internet, Intranet, LAN or Wan connection.
