Information about ShipCom's Smart Network Platform (SNP)

 

Operating the SNP  The Smart Network Platform is controlled by operators or dispatchers using SNP proprietary console software installed on any type of personal computers.  These are connected to the switching hardware using the standard TCP/IP Internet protocol. Each console enables an operator or dispatcher to connect any combination of radios or other communication systems, thus providing full interoperability and significantly enhanced communications capability.  In addition, each console can be used to control multiple switching systems connected to the network. Pre-configured conferences can be established. For example, City Police, County Sheriffs and Fire can be set in a pre-configured conference so that with just one mouse click a dispatcher connects all these agencies. A special simulcast feature makes it possible to simulcast a message to all connected communication systems for special alerts or announcements.  (Example: “The building is going to collapse.  Evacuate immediately!”) SNP can connect any radio or communications system to any other radio or communication system.   For example: A small town fire department may have 25 firemen using a single radio channel.  The same town may also have a 25 man police force using another radio channel on a different communications system. By connecting a single fire department radio and a single Police department radio to the Smart Network Platform a conference or connection can be made between the two systems allowing any of the 25 policemen and any of the 25 firemen to speak to each other (like a party-line conversation). Other devices such as the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and Cellular phones and the Internet can also be added to the Smart Network Platform.  With these facilities as part of the SNP, connections and conferences can be set up among virtually any communications systems.
